Coming Soon: “Sudan, Remember Us” – A New Film from T A P E Collective & MENA Solidarity

MENA Solidarity is proud to partner with T A P E Collective to promote Sudan, Remember Us, an urgent new documentary directed by Hind Meddeb. The film opens on 27 June and will be screening in cinemas across the UK and around the world, with selected events featuring Q&As with the director.

A Revolution Remembered

Filmed over four years, Sudan, Remember Us follows the revolutionary uprising in Sudan—from the sit-in protests of 2019 outside the Army headquarters in Khartoum, through the fall of longtime dictator Omar al-Bashir, and into the June 3rd, 2019 Khartoum sit-in massacre and the brutal repression that followed. At the heart of the film are the voices of Sudan’s youth: activists, artists, and ordinary people demanding change.

Rather than merely providing a political chronicle, Meddeb’s documentary captures how poetry, music, and dance became powerful tools of resistance. These cultural forms are not side notes to the revolution—they are its beating heart.

Even as the military crackdown escalated and the country spiralled into a counter-revolutionary war between Sudan’s two dominant militias—the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)—the resilience of the Sudanese people persisted. This film stands as both a tribute and a witness: a tribute to the bravery of the Sudanese revolutionaries, and a witness to the forces that sought to crush their hopes.

A Collaboration Rooted in Solidarity

Founded by Isra Al Kassi and Angela Moneke, T A P E Collective has been curating film screenings since 2015 that address the lack of representation on screen. With a focus on under-served titles that explore identity and heritage, T A P E’s work complements MENA Solidarity’s mission to amplify the voices of resistance from across the Middle East and North Africa.

Through this collaboration, we aim to bring Sudan, Remember Us to wider audiences and spark urgent conversations about Sudan’s ongoing struggle—and the power of creativity in the face of violence and repression.

Why This Film Matters Now

Sudan is in the grip of a devastating crisis. The revolution has been violently suppressed, and millions face war, displacement, and economic collapse. In this moment of deep suffering and uncertainty, it is more important than ever to raise up Sudanese voices and honour their legacy of resistance.

Sudan, Remember Us is not just a documentary—it is a call to remember, to reflect, and to stand in solidarity. It reminds us that revolutions can also be fought with words, rhythm, colour, and imagination.

Get Involved

We encourage everyone to attend a screening near them and participate in the post-screening Q&As with the director. Sharing the trailer and film information on social media helps broaden its reach. We especially urge community groups, student societies, trade unions, and activist networks to host local viewings to raise awareness of Sudan’s revolutionary struggle. Most importantly, we call on supporters to stand with grassroots Sudanese movements fighting today for freedom, peace, and justice.
