We are appalled at the extreme violence that has been used against peaceful protesters taking part in the Occupy Cabinet protest and demonstrations in Tahrir Square in Cairo. The vicious attacks by the army and police have resulted, at present (Evening, 17th Dec), in 9 dead and over 500 injured. Among those killed was Alaa Abd El-Hady, a medical student from Ain Shams University, who was killed during the military attack on the Occupy Cabinet protest on Friday. Many other students have also suffered serious injuries. We call on the Supreme Council of the Armed Forces (SCAF) to immediately cease its violent repression of protesters. Everyone has the right to protest. We call on David Cameron to halt all sales of tear gas and other weapons by UK companies to the Egyptian military. We stand in solidarity the thousands of protesters in Cairo and across Egypt in their struggle for democracy and social justice.
