Egypt: Postal Workers on Strike Nationwide

Postal workers at the Cairo office have decided to go on strike starting tuesday the 6th of september demanding higher wages, and the cleansing of their offices of all senior advisors and members of the NDP, the former fuling party; following weeks of strike action in provinces nationwide including: Menia, Qena, Ismailia, North Sinai, Alsharqiya, Algharbia, Fayoum, Beni Suef, Luxor and Aswan.

Workers have threatened to enter a general hunger strike if their demands are not met, one source from the Independent Union of Mail Workers said that he expected the strike action to escalate so as to include a general strike of all workers in the Postal Office across the country. .
The General Independent Union of Mail workers has called for the strike in its meeting held last Friday, where six members of the union where elected as representatives from different provinces to form a committee to negotiate the matter.
