Egypt: Revolution on the campuses – interview with Dr Hala Kamal

Dr Hala Kamal, a lecturer in the English Department at Cairo University, and an activist in the 9 March Movement  spoke to a lively meeting organised by Education Activist Network at Birkbeck College Student Union on Friday 27 May, alongside Spanish activists involved in the ‘Real Democracy Now’ protests. Here she gives an interview to Education Activist Network about the struggles for democracy and to continue the revolution on the university campuses.

Hala also addressed the congress of the University and College Union (UCU) on 29 May, and spoke at an official conference fringe meeting aimed at building solidarity between university staff in the UK and Egypt. Her visit was facilitated by Solidarity with MENA Workers Network, and UCU congress passed a resolution agreeing to affiliate formally to the network and to support the development of further solidarity links between UCU and Egyptian lecturers’ organisations.
