Dr Mohammed Shafiq, President of the Independent Union of Workers in Manshiet al-Bakry General Hospital, talks about the struggle of health workers to build independent unions and bring about a revolution in Egypt’s health system. The union was founded in the wake of Mubarak’s overthrow and led a revolution of its own within the hospital, ousting the old corrupt management and organising a democratic election for a new manager.
Mohammed Shafiq will be speaking at the MENA Solidarity Network Conference on 20 November. More information and how to book here.
