Model motion

This union notes:

  1. That Israeli attacks on civilians and forced displacement of Lebanese civilians continued “unabated” in August 2026, according to Human Rights Watch.
  2. Israeli forces have targeted journalists and health workers among the over 8200 killed in Lebanon since October 2023.

This union resolves:

  1. to condemn Israel’s forced displacement of Lebanese people and Palestinian refugees as ethnic cleansing and collective punishment
  2. to condemn the destruction of educational institutions and scholasticide in Lebanon and Palestine
  3. to donate £___ to UNRWA and Lebanese Red Cross
  4. to write to Ministers demanding urgent action on:
    1. UK sanctions on Israel for violating ICJ rulings on genocide
    2. immediate cessation of forced displacement
    3. protection of Palestinian right of return under international law
    4. end to Israeli attacks and occupation of Lebanon
  5. to reiterate unwavering solidarity with people of Lebanon, Palestine and Iran.

What can we do?

We all have a role to play. Workers, students, activists, retired people, community groups and trade unions can turn solidarity into practical action:

  • Support BDS and boycott companies and institutions complicit in Israel’s occupation and attacks.
  • Build links with Lebanese teachers, educators, students and independent unions.
  • Organise campaigns, demonstrations, public meetings and workplace, campus and community solidarity.
  • Transport workers can refuse to handle weapons destined for Israel.
  • Engineers and technicians can challenge military contracts and arms-related work.
  • Campaign against arms manufacturers and companies supplying Israel.
  • Demand an end to British arms exports and military cooperation with Israel.
  • Challenge racism, imperialism and militarism wherever they affect our communities.
