We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Muzan Alneel — a principled voice, committed revolutionary, and incisive thinker whose work and politics were rooted in the struggle for freedom and justice in Sudan.
Muzan made invaluable contributions to MENA Solidarity, including co-authoring and writing key chapters in our pamphlet Sudan’s Revolutionary and Popular Movements: a Research Report, launched at Marxism 2025, where she joined us online. Her work combined rigorous analysis with a clear political commitment to the oppressed, cutting through dominant narratives to expose authoritarian power while highlighting the agency of Sudan’s grassroots movements.
She was both a researcher and an active participant in the revolutionary process — shaped by the December Revolution and continuing to shape it in return. Part of a generation forged in Sudan’s revolutionary upsurge, she remained committed to the struggle even under conditions of war, repression, and displacement.
Her journalism and investigative writing stood out for their ability to connect economic and social realities to the broader dynamics of class struggle and state power, always grounded in the lived experience of ordinary Sudanese people.
Muzan’s loss is deeply felt across the Sudanese progressive movement and beyond. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, comrades, and all who knew and worked alongside her. Her contribution endures in the analysis, organising, and struggles she helped to sharpen — and in the ongoing fight for civilian rule and democracy in Sudan.
